Aseptic packaging materials in detail
Aseptic packaging usually takes the form of multilayer tertrapacks for milk and juices, or thermoformed tubs such as those used for tomato paste. Aseptic cartons are now being use for a wide range of foods, including cream, custard, flavoured milks, sauces, soups, wine, oil and cereal grains.
Aseptic bricks (UHT or long-life packs) are made from five layers: three of plastic, one of board and one of foil. Both tetrapacks and thermoformed tubs are made out of a laminate of high-quality paperboard, polyethylene and aluminium.

The general composition of materials and their purposes are:
- 70% paperboard, to provide stiffness, strength and the 'brick shape'
- 24% polyethylene plastic, to make the package liquid tight and keep the exterior dry, as well as give the package strength and resistance to denting
- 6% aluminium foil, which eliminates the need for refrigeration, as well as keeps out light and oxygen, which can lead to rapid deterioration of product color.
The aseptic carton contains layers of materials that include plastic, paper and aluminium foil, providing the contents with longer shelf life without preservatives or refrigeration. They are typically box- or brick-shaped packages, lightweight and efficient
